I have heard about adult coloring books for over a year now, and I kept thinking that they were silly. Recently, I have heard about how they have helped a lot of people cope with stress. If you have been following my Nutrisystem journey, you know that I have had an eating disorder since I was young. I tend to turn to food when I am bored or stressed. The holidays seem to be the worst time for me, so “Today is the day” I finally gave adult coloring books a shot. Sourcebooks.com has some awesome selections that will keep me busy all year long!
This was the first one I tried, and it was a lot of fun. It took over an hour to do, and it was so relaxing and calming. I feel like I am always rushing around everyday, so it was a little hard to slow down and stay inside the lines. In my mind, I just wanted to hurry and get it done, but I kept having to make myself be calm and stay in the lines and be patient. I felt like it forced me to relax because I wanted it to come out nice. My 4-year-old was like, “Wow Mom that looks really cool!”

Let’s color together is an awesome idea, and I can’t wait to do this with my son when he gets a little older. It is a really fun idea. I think it would even be fun to have the hubster do this with me.
Since I live in Chicago, I thought the “Classics Art Institute Chicago” was a lot of fun.
Color the Classics lets you put your own creative spin on 30 masterpieces—including Grant Wood’s American Gothic and Claude Monet’s Water Lilies—that are part of the Art Institute of Chicago’s vast collection. Create your own work of art by replicating the classics or add your own creative flair to masterpieces admired for centuries. Featured artists include Pablo Picasso, Georgia O’Keeffe, Katsushika Hokusai, Paul Cézanne, Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Georges Seurat, Edward Hopper, Grant Wood, and many more.
Color your dreams is such a beautiful book, and I can’t wait to start to bring life to it with some color!
You have the power to change your life—and Color Your Dreams can help! Each of the 100 coloring pages in this inspiring book is designed around an empowering word (such as love, courage, and kindness) that will encourage you to be the person you want to be. Guided meditations and mindfulness activities allow you to become even more deeply engaged with the positive elements you want to see in your life. As you color, let the power of language lift you up and set your spirit free!
These wonderful books would be a great gift for a friend or co-worker. They are affordable, and everyone has stress in their lives and with cell phones and other gadgets, these books will remind people to simply enjoy some quiet time and relax their minds. This is one of my new favorite hobbies!
